Lombok to Bali Arrival Ports

The four main route pages cover the most-used Bali arrival ports:

  • Lombok to Padang Bai: The cheapest and fastest crossing. Most operators arrive at Padang Bai.
The right choice if you are heading to Ubud, Candidasa or anywhere in east and central Bali, or if the lowest ticket price is the priority.

  • Lombok to Sanur: Better for travellers heading to Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu or south Bali, and for anyone with a flight to catch.

Lombok to Bali Travel Tips

  • Arriving at a south Bali port makes a significant difference for flights: If you are catching a flight from Ngurah Rai Airport, arriving at Sanur, Serangan or Nusa Dua saves 45 minutes to an hour compared to arriving at Padang Bai.
The extra ticket cost is usually well worth it for same-day flight connections.

  • Port taxes are usually not included: Most operators do not include port taxes in the ticket price (except Eka Jaya).

  • Choose your departure port: Most travellers depart from Bangsal, which is the closest port to the Gili Islands. If you are staying in Senggigi or west Lombok, departing directly from Senggigi with Semaya One or Wahana Virendra saves a taxi ride north to Bangsal.

  • Expect the unexpected: Travel in Indonesia can be unpredictable. Weather, tides or technical checks may cause delays. Staying flexible and patient will help you enjoy the journey rather than fight it.

  • Sea conditions on the Lombok Strait can vary: The Lombok Strait is a deep channel and mornings are usually the smoothest time to travel.

Other Ways to Travel from Lombok to Bali

For the vast majority of travellers, the fast boat is the right choice. Here are the alternatives for those considering other options.

Public ferry from Lombok to Bali

The public Lombok ferry departs from Lembar in south Lombok and crosses to Padang Bai in around 4 to 5 hours. Add a taxi from the Gili Islands or Bangsal area to Lembar (roughly 2 hours), plus the wait time, and the total journey from the Gili Islands to Padang Bai can easily take 8 to 10 hours.

The ticket price is minimal, but the time cost is significant. Worth considering only for travellers on a very tight budget with a flexible schedule.

Flights from Lombok to Bali

There are short flights between Lombok International Airport (LOP) and Ngurah Rai Airport (DPS) in Bali. The journey from Bangsal or the Gili Islands to Lombok International Airport takes around 1.5 to 2 hours by taxi.

When you factor in transfer time and airport check-in, the total door-to-door time is often similar to the fast boat, at a higher cost. Worth checking for last-minute plans or if you are already in south Lombok close to the airport.
