Nusa Penida to Bali Fast Boat Operators

All operators on Gilitickets are licensed and vetted. Infants under 2 travel free on all operators, and several offer reduced fares for children.

  • Eka Jaya Fast Ferry: The most reliable operator on the route, with departures to both Padang Bai and Nusa Dua. Eka Jaya has been running since 1999 with a strong reputation for punctuality and organised boarding.

  • Golden Queen Fast Ferry: Daily service from Toya Pakeh to Sanur, with an air-conditioned cabin and capacity for up to 166 passengers. A step up from the smaller budget boats and a reliable option for the crossing back.

  • Marina Fast Ferry: Departs Nusa Penida bound for Serangan, arriving in south Bali close to the airport toll road. Particularly useful for travellers catching an afternoon flight from Ngurah Rai, as the Serangan to airport connection via the toll road takes around 45 minutes.

  • Gangga Express: The only operator running to Kusamba (Tri Bhuwana Port), departing from Sampalan on the north coast of Nusa Penida. Multiple daily crossings, around 15 minutes. A practical option for travellers heading to east Bali. No transfers, no air-con.

  • Arjuna Fast Cruise: Air-conditioned daily crossings from Nusa Penida to Sanur. Up to 86 passengers, straightforward boarding. A workable option for the Sanur crossing, though communication is not the operator's strongest point if you need to make last-minute changes.

  • Angel Billabong: Multiple daily crossings from Toya Pakeh to Sanur. Generally reliable on the water.

  • El Rey Fast Cruise: Two daily crossings from Nusa Penida to Sanur, with Economy and VIP class options. No air-con.  A no-frills, honest budget crossing.

  • Wijaya Perkasa: Runs a direct Nusa Penida to Sanur service.  Allow some flexibility in your schedule, as this operator can run behind time.

Nusa Penida to Bali Arrival Ports

Choosing the right arrival port comes down to where you need to be after you land.
Here is a summary of each option.

  • Nusa Penida to Sanur: most options, best for south Bali
Five operators run to Sanur, making it the most flexible choice for timing your return. Once you arrive at Sanur harbour, taxis and ride-hailing apps give you easy access to Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, Denpasar and Nusa Dua. The crossing takes around 40 minutes from Toya Pakeh.

  • Nusa Penida to Padang Bai: best for Ubud and east Bali
Eka Jaya's daily service to Padang Bai is the best option for travellers heading to Ubud, Amed or Candidasa. The crossing takes around 1 hour. From Padang Bai, Ubud is around 45 minutes to 1 hour by car, and the east Bali coast is even closer.

  • Nusa Penida to Kusamba: quiet arrival, east Bali
Gangga Express drops you at Tri Bhuwana Port in Kusamba, a low-key harbour without the volume of taxis and hawkers common at busier ports. Useful if you are heading towards Candidasa, Amed or Klungkung. Kusamba is not well connected to South Bali, so factor that in before booking.

  • Nusa Penida to Serangan: best for the airport
Marina Fast Ferry arrives at Serangan, which is linked to the airport via the Bali Mandara toll road. The drive from Serangan to Ngurah Rai Airport takes around 40 to 50 minutes, making this the most practical option for travellers with afternoon or evening flights. Not ideal if you are heading to Ubud or north Bali.

  • Nusa Penida to Nusa Dua: closest to the airport
Eka Jaya's Nusa Dua service arrives at Tanjung Benoa, the closest harbour to Ngurah Rai Airport. The drive to the airport takes around 30 minutes without traffic. A good choice for same-day island-to-flight connections, especially if you have an early afternoon departure.

Nusa Penida to Bali Travel Tips

  • Book your return at the same time as your outbound: Booking both legs together when you first plan your trip is usually slightly cheaper than buying the return separately once you are on the island, and means you have a guaranteed seat without having to arrange it after arrival.

  • Allow enough time for airport connections: If you are catching a flight from Ngurah Rai, factor in the crossing time plus the transfer from the arrival port to the airport. Arriving at Nusa Dua or Serangan gives you the shortest road transfer. Add at least 2.5 hours between your planned boat arrival and your flight departure time.

  • Port taxes are not included: Most operators do not include port taxes in the ticket price (except Eka Jaya for Bali).
Check Nusa Penida and Bali port taxes

  • Seas can be rougher in the afternoon: Morning crossings tend to be calmer, particularly during the wet season from November to March. If you are prone to seasickness, a morning departure is the safer choice regardless of which operator you use.

  • Gangga Express departs from Sampalan, not the west coast: If you have booked with Gangga Express, note that their departure point is Sampalan on the north coast, not Toya Pakeh. Make sure your accommodation or driver knows this so you arrive at the right harbour.

Other Ways to Get from Nusa Penida to Bali

The fast boat is the only realistic option for most travellers. Two alternatives exist in theory, but neither is practical for regular use.

Local wooden boats

Traditional jukung wooden boats occasionally make the crossing from Nusa Penida to Kusamba beach. These are not tourist services and run without a fixed schedule, no safety equipment and no shelter. Not recommended.

Private speedboat charter

Private speedboat charters can be arranged from various points on Nusa Penida for full flexibility on timing and arrival point on Bali. The cost is considerably higher than a scheduled fast boat and is mainly relevant for groups or travellers with very specific requirements. For most people the scheduled fast boat is the right option.
